Today in my college art class, we made wire sculptures. The art of wire sculptures was started by Alexander Calder, born in July 1898.
To create the sculptures in class, we were given a wooden block, along with wire and beads, and were instructed to try to make a structure that could balance and move on the block.
We watched this video in class to show how we need to use our resources to make a balanced and kinetic sculpture.

Wire Sculpture Artist Statement
-My sculpture is titled “The Coming of Spring.” Immediately when this project was brought up, I knew I wanted to do a spring-themed sculpture. My thought process was to use beads that emulate spring in its entirety, and what makes me enjoy that time of year. The large yellow bead represents the sun, and the little black beads on the other side represent the birds coming home from migration. I added multiple other beads, such as colorful circular beads, which felt like easter to me. After, I also added some fun flower-shaped beads, along with bells, which represent the sounds of birds, trees, and the wind. Moving around the beads and wire multiple times was necessary to get it to balance, but that made it all the more rewarding when it worked out in the end.
Thank you for viewing my page and appreciating my lovely art projects. Remember that everyone is an artist and that no art piece will ever look the same.
