This week in art class, my classmates and I were tasked with creating a cardboard loom to make our own weaving art projects. I had personally never done this sort of art project before, and I was pretty nervous, to be frank. I will admit, though, that this was actually pretty easy to pick up, and could definitely be done in an upper-elementary classroom.

Occasionally, I think I pulled on the yarn too hard a couple of times, which made me extremely worried that when I took my project off the loom, it would be full of holes and look very messy. Thankfully, when I eventually removed it, I was very pleased with the final results!

Artist Statement:

This cardboard loom weaving represents my childhood and the connection I have to the ocean. The blue reflects the movement of waves and rushing currents, while the white represents the foamy waves at the shore. The green represents ocean life, including seaweed, algae, and underwater ecosystems. While creating this project, and weaving back and forth, it reminded me of the ocean waves going up and down. To me, this weaving project was very meaningful, and the final result perfectly captures the calmness and fluidity of the gorgeous Pacific Ocean.
